Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paro today on a State Visit to Bhutan from 22-23 March 2024. The visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan and the Government’s emphasis on its Neighbourhood First Policy, the Ministry of External Affairs stated in its press release.
PM Modi was scheduled to visit the neighbour country on 21st march 2024 but it was postponed due to ongoing inclement weather conditions over Paro airport.
On Friday, Modi was received by H.E. Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan at Paro airport and accorded ceremonial welcome.
During the visit, Modi will receive audience with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan. Prime Minister will also hold talks with the Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay.

The Ministry had in an earlier press release highlighted India and Bhutan’s unique and enduring partnership which is rooted in mutual trust, understanding and goodwill. Our shared spiritual heritage and warm people to people ties add depth and vibrancy to our exceptional relations, it said, while asserting that the visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on bilateral and regional matters of interest and deliberate on ways to expand and intensify our exemplary partnership for the benefit of our peoples.
Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu, a state-of-the-art hospital, built with the assistance of the Government of India in Thimphu.
Prime Minister of Bhutan, H.E Dasho Tshering Tobgay had made an official visit to India from 14-18 March 2024 at the invitation of PM Modi. On behalf of the King of Bhutan, PM Tshering Tobgay extended invitation to PM Modi to visit Bhutan next week which he accepted.
