Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, spoke to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and congratulated her winning the Parliamentary elections for the fourth consecutive time.
Later, PM Modi, in a post on X, also congratulated the people of Bangladesh for the successful conduct of elections and asserted India’s commitment “to further strengthen our enduring and people-centric partnership with Bangladesh.”
Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge, on the behalf of Indian National Congress, congratulated Sheikh Hasina and her Party Awami League, for the resounding victory in the general elections that was held on 7th January 2024.
“India and Bangladesh are civilisationally, culturally and socio-economically linked,” he said, and mentioned that the ties are bonded by the fight for the Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and our leader Smt. Indira Gandhi laid the foundation of our deep-rooted and indestructible bilateral ties which reflect an all-encompassing partnership based on sovereignty, equality, trust, and understanding that goes far beyond strategic partnership,” Kharge wrote on X. The Congress president hoped that the two countries and Awami League and INC will continue to strengthen the everlasting bonds.
Meanwhile addressing the media on Monday, Sheikh Hasina said that India is a great friend of Bangladesh and that she appreciates the “wonderful relationship” between the two countries.
