Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave away over 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits in various Government departments and organizations. Meanwhile, the Congress Party attacked the Prime Minister over the alleged lack of employment opportunities and accused him of “destroying” governance by “personalising” it and taking it to “new lows” through his “Rozgar Melas”.

The National Rozgar Mela was held at 45 locations across the country.

Addressing the gathering on Tuesday via video conferencing, Modi had said that in the last nine years, the government has prioritized the recruitment process by making it faster, transparent and unbiased and in the process, exterminated nepotism.

He said that the initiatives of the government are creating new opportunities for the youth. Be it a foreign investment or India’s export might, he maintained that it is creating numerous opportunities for employment and self-employment in the country.

Prime Minister also mentioned that the nature of jobs has seen tremendous changes where new sectors have emerged for the youth of the country and reiterated that the central government is providing continuous support to these new sectors and highlighted the startup revolution that the nation has witnessed.

Further, PM Modi emphasized that higher education institutes and skill development institutes are being developed at a fast pace in the country.

Recalling his recent meeting with the Walmart CEO, he informed about the CEO’s confidence in India in exporting up to 80 thousand crore rupees worth of goods from the country. PM stated that this is big news for the youth employed in the sectors of logistics and supply chain.

PM Modi urged the new recruits to make full use of the opportunity and highlighted the government’s emphasis on the skill development of its employees through the iGoT Karmayogi module, an online learning platform.

Following the Mela, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi, “Modi ji who promised to provide 2 crore jobs annually, in 9 years, has shattered the dreams of 18 crore youth so far. 30 lakh posts are vacant in government departments, but today an event has been organised to distribute only 71,000 recruitment letters!”

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also slammed the PM over the ‘Rozgar Melas’, saying that by personalising governance like never before, he has “destroyed” governance.

“He has taken it to new lows through his Rozgar Melas as if he has personally created these jobs, as if he is personally paying those getting these jobs, and as if those getting these jobs should feel beholden to him and him alone,” Ramesh said on Twitter.

The job-seeking youth in this country know it is this PM who has destroyed lakhs and lakhs of jobs both in govt and private sector through demonetisation, flawed GST, crippling of MSMEs and wholesale privatisation of PSUs, he alleged.

“The PM claims to be a self-made man. Clearly he is obsessed with the man who has made him,” Ramesh said.
