PM Modi set to visit Meghalaya and Tripura tomorrow

Shillong/ Agartala: Modi will grace the 50th year celebration of the North Eastern Council (NEC) at Shillong

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the states of Meghalaya and Tripura on Sunday where he will inaugurate, dedicate and lay foundation stone of projects worth over Rs 6,800 crores besides attending the NEC Golden Jubilee celebration in Shillong.

The PM is expected to arrive at the State Convention Centre, Shillong at around 10:30am, to grace the 50th year celebration of the North Eastern Council (NEC), which was formally inaugurated on 7 November 1972.

Union Home Minister, DoNER Ministers, Governors and Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states, Central Ministers belonging to the Northeastern region, local MPs and MLAs and nominated Members of the NEC will also attend the celebration.

At the function, Modi will release a commemorative volume chronicling NEC’s contribution towards the development of the North Eastern Region over the last fifty years titled GOLDEN FOOTPRINTS at the occasion.

The contents of this book have been gleaned from the Archives of the Council and from the official records of the eight member states of the Council besides capturing in colour the iconic infrastructure and development works supported by the NEC in the recent past, the Prime Minister’s Office stated.

At around 11:30am, Modi will inaugurate various important projects of the North Eastern Region worth over Rs 2,450 crores. He will dedicate to the nation 4G mobile towers and inaugurate the New Campus of IIM Shillong, the Shillong – Diengpasoh Road and four other road projects across the states of Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

Further, he will also inaugurate the Spawn Laboratory at Mushroom Development Centre in Meghalaya, the Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre in Meghalaya 21 Hindi libraries in Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Assam.

Besides these, Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of six road projects across the states of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, the foundation stone of the Integrated Hospitality and Convention Centre at Tura and Shillong Technology Park Phase -II.

After the NEC programme, the PM will address a public meeting at the Polo Grounds in Shillong where around 10,000 people are expected. Besides the local population, prominent citizens, achievers, representatives of Self-Help Groups, Farmers’ Groups from all the eight North Eastern states will also be present.

PM Modi to attend NEC golden jubilee celebrations in Shillong on 18 Dec: Sangma

PM will then travel to Agartala, the capital of Tripura, and in a public function at around 2:45pm, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various key projects worth over Rs 4,350 crores.

There he will launch the Grih Pravesh programme for beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Rural. These houses, developed at a cost of over Rs 3,400 crores, will cover over 2 lakh beneficiaries.

In Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate the project for widening of the Agartala bypass (Khayerpur – Amtali) NH-08, and lay the foundation stones for 32 roads of more than 230km length under PMGSY III (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) and for improvement of 112 roads covering a distance of over 540km.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the State Institute of Hotel Management at Anandnagar and Agartala Government Dental College.

Modi is scheduled to chair separate meetings of state ministers and the BJP core committee with an eye on next year’s Assembly election.
