Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to his home state Gujarat on 30th and 31st October 2023. The Prime Minister’s office informed this a day after his visit to the election bound State of Mizoram was cancelled.

PM was scheduled to visit Mamit district in the North Eastern State on Monday but state BJP media convener Johny Lalthanpuia informed the media on 28th October that the campaign trip had been cancelled. He also informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be filling Modi’s place. The BJP media convenor however did not mention when Shah will be visiting the state.

The General Election in Mizoram is to be conducted on 7th November while counting of votes will take place on 3rd December.

Reacting to the news, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted on X that the cancellation was due to the PM not visiting Manipur. “The Prime Minister was to address an election rally in Mizoram on Oct 30th. But now there are reports that he has cancelled his visit. Could it be because questions would be raised that he had not found time to visit the deeply troubled neighbouring state that has been on the deep edge for almost 180 days… with what face would he go to the rally in Mizoram?” he posted.

Zoramthanga, Chief Minister of Mizoram and leader of BJP ally Mizo National Front had told BBC News on 23rd October that he will not share the platform with Narendra Modi when he comes to the State. He said that in view of the burning of the churches in Manipur, “To have sympathy for the BJP at this time will be a big minus point for my party”.

In Gujarat, PM Modi will perform “Pooja and Darshan” at Ambaji Temple on Monday after which he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth around Rs. 5800 crores in multiple sectors like rail, road, drinking water and irrigation in Mehsana.

On Tuesday, PM Modi will participate in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme on 31st October and pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He will then inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth Rs 160 crore in Kevadia. To conclude his trip, Modi will address the 560 Officer Trainees from across 16 civil services of India and 3 civil services of Bhutan of the 98th Common Foundation Course at the culmination of Aarambh 5.0.
