PM-NAPS awareness and registration drive held in Kiphire

The awareness and registration drive for Establishments on Apprenticeship Portal (PM-NAPS) was held on October 10 at Agape Hr. Sec School Auditorium Kiphire to promote apprenticeship opportunities and encourage establishments and youths to register.

Temsuwati Longkumer, NCS, DC Kiphire & Chairman DSC, graced the event as the special guest. In his speech, Longkumer NCS, delved on the saturation of government employment. “Not everyone will become doctors or engineers, therefore, we should find a way in life to be independent and find a satisfactory jobs which gives a sense of security and satisfaction,” said Longkumer.

Mentioning that great well-known personalities and richest people in the world are mostly businessmen and entrepreneurs, the special guest challenged the gathering-if they can why can’t we?

He also stressed on the importance of social media for learning and upskilling. He further encouraged the student community to invest their time and energy in something that can build their future, and provide their livelihood.

Er H. Alongse Joint Director DoESDE highlighted on the issues of unemployment in Nagaland.

“The population of the state is increasing every year but the number of jobs are stagnant or not increasing to the needs of the increasing population therefore, getting oneself upskilled in private sector is a huge benefit for the young people under sectors such as Hospitality, Airlines, cruise, agri sector, Tourism and nursing etc,” stated Alongse.

He stated that apprenticeship Is required in the real world as industries requires experienced and hardworking persons in their company or industry.

Mentioning that “Skill is the need it the hour”, Alongse encouraged the young people change their mindset and not live in a ideal dreams alone.

Pravin Yadav, State co-ordinator NSDC said the program aims in providing opportunity for aspiring candidates to take their skill sets to the next level and for employers to increase their productivity.

He highlighted the advantages of apprenticeship training for candidates:

-Getting real world learning experience from industry professionals.

-Earning while they acquire ready skills, enhance employability for career advancement.

-Giving an edge with industry-recognised credentials, getting a part of the stipend directly credited to their account with Direct Benefit Transfer.

“For Establishments, it helps develop skills in apprentices tailored to their business needs. The Government contribution of 25% of the stipend paid to apprentices (maximum of Rs.1500) will be provided to NER candidates working outside the domicile state, totalling around Rupees 3000/- per candidate in addition to their basic pay,” informed Yadav.

He added that the aim of the program is to increase productivity with trained apprentices, gain higher retention rates by hiring apprentices post training completion, and attract top talent with improved reputation. Yadav also highlighted that  5.5 Lakh apprenticeship opportunities are available on the apprenticeship portal.

Altogether 350 students participated actively in the program from Loyola Hr Secondary School, Government Higher Secondary School, Yangphi High School, Agape Hr. Sec School and Zisaji Presidency College.

The program was chaired by Thsadiba Sangtam, Director, JSS with welcome address delivered by T Khyodemo Vice Principal, Government, ITI Kiphire.
