PMDDKY and Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses launched in Zunheboto

The launching programme of the Prime Minister Dhan Dhaanya Yojana (PMDDKY) and the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses was held at Zunheboto on October 11,  organized by the Agri. & Allied Department, with EAC Zunheboto, L. Chinglem Konyak as the special guest.

Giving brief remarks on PMDDKY, EAC, L Chinglem Konyak stated that the scheme was introduced to transform agriculture, create awareness, and enhance productivity across the country. He underlined the need for diversification in agriculture to ensure sustainability, which in turn helps enrich soil quality.

Konyak also spoke about the Government of India’s initiative on biofortification of rice to improve its nutritional value and address nutritional deficiencies in the country. He further highlighted the Enhancing Landscape and Ecosystem Management (ELEMENT) Nagaland Project, a state government initiative funded by the World Bank – International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), aimed at promoting farmers’ welfare in the state.

In his speech, Konyak urged the farmers present to effectively utilize local resources and products to increase their income and explore post-harvest value addition for potential export opportunities.

Later, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO), Kivika Chophy, noted that under the PMDDKY scheme, 100 Aspiration Agriculture Districts were selected across the country, with Mon District in Nagaland being one of them. In his closing remarks, he also informed that no new registration is available under PM-KISAN in Zunheboto, as the registration process for the district has already been saturated.

The programme began with a welcome address delivered by Agricultural Officer, Isac Inakhe Yepthomi, and concluded with the distribution of agricultural seeds by the Agri. & Allied Department, Zunheboto to the farmers.
