The Kohima District Administration, in collaboration with SANKALP–District Hub for Empowerment of Women under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, is set to launch an intensive enrolment drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a maternity benefit scheme aimed at supporting pregnant women and lactating mothers (PW & LM).
The PMMVY provides financial assistance to improve the health and nutrition of mothers and their children. Under the scheme, a cash incentive of ₹5,000 is offered for the first birth, irrespective of the gender of the child. An additional incentive of ₹6,000 is provided for the second birth if it is a girl child. The financial assistance is directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The scheme applies to all Scheduled Tribe (ST) women, except those in regular government service.
To ensure wider access and ease of enrolment, on-the-spot Aadhaar enrolment and India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) account opening services will also be made available at each location of the enrolment drive.

The PMMVY enrolment drive will take place as per the following schedule:
- Kezocha Block – Council Hall, Kezoma Village on July 21 from 10 a.m. onwards.
- Jakhama Block – Panchayat Hall, Viswema Village on July 22 from 10 a.m. onwards.
- Chiephobozou Block – CDPO Office, Chiephobozou Town on July 25 from 10 a.m. onwards.
The district administration has urged all Village Councils to disseminate the information widely and mobilise all eligible pregnant women and lactating mothers to participate in the drive with the required documents. This effort is crucial to ensure that beneficiaries are able to fully avail the financial support provided under PMMVY.
