PMMVY extends support to pregnant and lactating mothers in Nagaland to empower girl children

Kohima: Scheme applicable for first two live births, provided second child is a girl

The Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, headquartered in Kohima, has announced the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a Centrally Sponsored conditional Maternity Benefit scheme under Mission Shakti. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to pregnant women and lactating mothers, with a particular focus on empowering girl children.

Key Features of PMMVY: Pregnant women and lactating mothers will receive a monetary benefit of ₹5,000 for their first live birth and ₹6,000 for the second child, provided the second child is a girl.

The benefits will be disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and can be availed up to nine months after childbirth.

Special enrollment for mothers of the second child born (girl child) on or after 1st April, 2022 is available until 31st September, 2023.

The primary objectives of PMMVY include: Providing partial financial support to pregnant and lactating mothers to enhance their health and nutrition during pregnancy and post-delivery, along with compensation for wage loss, if any.

Promoting positive behavioral change towards girl children by offering additional cash incentives for the second child if it’s a girl.

Eligibility: All Pregnant Women (PW) and Lactating Mothers (LM), except those employed by the State Government, Central Government, or Public Sector Undertakings, and those already receiving similar benefits under another applicable law.

The scheme is applicable for the first two live births, provided the second child is a girl.

Beneficiaries can register for PMMVY before 270 (9 months) days from childbirth.

Benefits under PMMVY: Eligible beneficiaries will receive cash incentives of Rs. 5,000/- in two installments and an additional cash incentive of Rs. 6,000/- for the second child (girl child) through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to their individual bank accounts.

Conditions and Installments for the 1st Child: First Installment: Rs 3,000/- on registration of pregnancy and after at least one Ante-Natal Check-up within 6 months from the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or approved Health Facilities.

Second Installment: Rs 2,000/- upon the registration of child birth and after the child has received the first cycle of BCG, OPV, DPT, and Hepatitis-B or its equivalent/substitute.

Documents and Details Required: Aadhaar card of the beneficiary with Date of Birth. Address and Phone number. Bank account details (Aadhaar seeded bank Account). Mother and Child Protection (MCP) Card (LMP date, Ante-natal, and Vaccination records). RCHID/MCP Card number. Any one document supporting the criteria list (e.g., ST/SC certificate, Ration card, E-shram card, Ayushman Bharat Card, etc.).

Beneficiaries can apply at: The nearest Anganwadi Center. The nearest office of the District Programme Officer (DPO) and Child Development Project Officer (CDPO). District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) attached to the Deputy Commissioner’s offices in the districts. Individual beneficiaries can apply online through Citizen Registration on the mobile app or web application at https://pmmvy.nic.in.
