Under the sponsorship of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), the Pochury Wrestling Association (PWA) in collaboration with the NWA today launched its 10 days long program of Intensive Wrestling Training Camp 2024 at Badminton Hall, Yisisotha, under Wazeho circle, Meluri, Sub-Division.
Gracing the Camp as the Special Invitee, NWA Vice President (Admn) Mitwatei Haibwang, stressed the importance of wrestling which is a traditionally practiced games/sports since times immemorial adding. He also provided a brief overview of the formation of NWA in 1969.
Encouraging the campers to give their best during the 10 days long training camp, he urged them to be motivated with the spirit of moving forward with competitiveness in the days ahead, informed a press release by the Media Cell, NWA.
Fully optimistic that, the campers will come forward to partake in the NWA upcoming championships, Haibwang said, NWA is expecting good number of wrestlers to partake in the NWA championships.
The NWA also informed that the training is presently undertaken by the Lotha Wrestling Association (LWA) adding that the Pochury Wrestling Association (PWA), is the second initiative of the NWA. The Rengma Wrestling Association (RWA) is scheduled on 14 October at Tseminyu and Sumi Wrestling Association (SWA) and few others are in the pipeline in the month of October 2024.
“Separate State level Naga Style wrestling championship for non-practised wrestling communities, apart from NWA present affiliated units (Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang) is in plan to organized probably in the month of March 2025,” stated the NWA.
It urged the Pochury youths to be prepared and be part of the propose championship. Nagaland style wrestling is all set to be introduced during the Asian Alysh Belt Wrestling Championship scheduled in the month of November 2024 where more than 20 nations across the globe has confirmed their participation.

Approximately, 27 wrestlers from several Ranges were registered to be part of the 10 days camp along with management officials. NWA prominent wrestlers Zasevikho Meyatsu, Savizo Thira and Rangkolong Mbung were assigned as the Coach/Trainer for the 10 days camp.
Meanwhile, the launching program for the wrestling training camp was chaired by Sipichü Pfithu, President PWA, Rev. T. Aruchu Trakha, Finance Secretary, Pochury Baptist Church Council (PBCC) invoked God’s s blessings, PWA Executive Member Er. Joyson Yitsuthu offered welcome note, NWA Vice President (Gen) Viketouzo Meyase, gave a brief introductory note and apprise the house of the NWA proceedings while S. Kochu, Pastor, Yisisotha Baptist Church pronounced a closing prayer followed Day-1 training camp proceedings.
