Police arrests 5 members of NTPRADAO for threatening to burn down quarters of all MLAs over UCC

Dimapur: Arrested members of unregistered org include its president, general secretary

Five members of Nagaland Transparency, Public Rights Advocacy & Direct Action Organisation (NTPRADAO) have been arrested by Dimapur Police for threatening the legislators of the state if the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly support the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

A statement from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dimapur mentioned that the arrests had been made “arrested on charges of criminal intimidation, conspiracy to commit crime against the Hon’ble legislators and threatening to destroy government properties with intent to provoke breach of peace.” It also informed that case had been registered at East Police Station, Dimapur and further investigation was on to unearth the mala fide intention and book the persons involved in the crime.

The five arrested members of NTPRADAO, an unregistered organization, are: Michael Tungoe, President; Ikato Zhimomi, General Secretary Public Policy; Albert Kire, General Secretary; Temjen Mar Ao, State Executive Member and Hayithung T. Lotha, Chief Advisor.

Mention may be made that NTPRADAO had on 29 June 2023 released a statement Titled “Universalisation of personal laws against tenets and basic structure of Indian Constitution” where it condemned the proposed UCC and called it unnecessary, impractical and harmful to the nation.

The statement concluded with it stating, “The NTPRADA organisation with its 3 (three) thousand plus members from all over 16 districts of Nagaland shall be compelled to storm and attack each of the 60 legislators official quarters and burnt it down to ashes, if the present 14th NLA succumbs to outside forces and passes a bill in support of UCC.”

The document was signed by Advocate Michael, Ikato Zhimomi, Albert Kire, Nzanbemo Yanthan (Deputy General Secretary), Chenithung Lotha (Secy Gen) and Temjen Mar Ao.
