A temporary police outpost was formally inaugurated at Ungma on August 6 in a ceremony attended by village leaders, district officials, and officers of the Nagaland Police.
Inaugurating the outpost Vesupra Kezo, NPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung noted that the police outpost was a response to a long-standing demand from the local populace, particularly the residents of Ungma, Settsu, Aolijen, Mangmetong, and Longkhum villages. He stated that the area’s strategic location along the National Highway and its growing population made it essential to expand law enforcement infrastructure to ensure sustained peace and order.
“The establishment of this police outpost reflects the department’s commitment to safety, justice accessibility, and community cooperation,” said Kezo. He acknowledged the challenges faced by residents due to the considerable distance from the nearest police station, which often delayed emergency responses and hampered patrolling efforts.
Over the past three years, 21 criminal cases have been registered within the jurisdiction, resulting in the arrest of 85 individuals for serious offences including extortion, drug trafficking, liquor smuggling, and road-related incidents. Kezo explained that such recurring criminal activities highlighted the need for a more responsive and localized police presence.
“This outpost will enable faster emergency responses, more effective patrolling, and improved monitoring of crime-prone zones,” he stated. “It will serve not only as deterrent to criminal elements but also as a symbol of safety, instilling greater public confidence in law enforcement.”
Kezo underlined that the outpost is not just a police structure, but a service point for the people. “Every officer posted here must carry the duty to protect the rights and dignity of every citizen, to act with fairness and empathy, and to be a source of assurance in times of need,” he said.
Stressing the importance of cooperation, he urged the community and village councils to actively support the functioning of the outpost. “The role of the police cannot be effective in isolation. I earnestly seek the support of all concerned to make this a model outpost built on the foundation of community partnership,” he added.

Concluding, Kezo said, “Let us dedicate this police outpost to the hope and service of the people of Mokokchung, with the prayer that every action taken here reflects integrity, courage, and the spirit of public service.”
