The police in Manipur on Thursday recovered 165 soap boxes of brown sugar weighing 1.884kg from Singngat Sub-division under Churanchandpur district.
The operation was in continuation of a case where 297 Soap Cases of brown sugar weighing 3.564kg and worth 55 lakh were seized in the same area. The two individuals from whose possession the drugs were found on 9 November 2022 had been arrested by the police.
After Thursday’s recovery by the team, the total recovery of brown sugar in the case is 5.448kg.
Acting on the reports received from engaged sources as well as statements of arrested accused persons, a team of Singngat Police Station led by Inspector Thangpu Tonsing, Officer-in-Charge, SI Chinzasiam and ASI Hauliankhup of Singngat Police Station, conducted a search operation in and around the route of the absconding co-accused suspects.
The search operation led to the recovery of one gunny bag, hidden amongst the bushes of the forest in Lancha village area. Upon inspection, the gunny bag was found to contain 15 boxes where each box contained 11 soap cases of suspected brown sugar.
The police commenced the checking and seizure in the presence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Singngat by following necessary formalities.
Upon weighing, the seized contraband item was found to be 1.884kg.
Police said that further investigation is on to arrest all the persons involved in the case.
