Special Operation Team of Mokokchung Police led by Additional Superintendent of Police intercepted and seized two trucks carrying approximately 4000 kilograms of suspected smuggled Areca Nut on September 21, 2025, around 11:20 p.m.
The trucks, one Eicher bearing registration No. AS 01 SC 9997 and one Ashok Leyland bearing registration No. AS 26 AC 0758, were found with the consignment concealed in hidden storage built under the body floor. The drivers failed to produce valid documents required by law.
According to a press release, four persons were arrested in connection with the seizure. They have been identified as: Sanowar Khan (32 years), S/o Miya Khan, V/o Balikuri, PO/PS Barpeta, Assam; Akbar Ali Dewan (21 years), S/o Hajrat Dewan, V/o Satrakanara, PO/PS Barpeta, Assam; Nur Mahammad Ali (22 years), S/o Hasan Ali, V/o Baghbar, PO/PS Barpeta, Assam; and Jahidul Islam (27 years), S/o Habibur Rahman, V/o Bhulukabari, PO/PS Barpeta, Assam.

The seized items were taken to PS-II Mokokchung following legal procedure in the presence of the accused persons. The matter was entered in the PS-II General Diary as GDE No. 05/2025 dated
September 21.
The press release further stated that the seized consignment along with the four accused persons has been forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner, Custom (Preventive) Division, Dimapur, for further legal action.
