Speaking at the Conference of Power Ministers of North-Eastern States & Sikkim held today in Guwahati, Assam, Nagaland Power Minister, K.G. Kenye, expressed disappointment that lately no hydro project has been sanctioned for the State despite much effort by the Nagaland Government.
A press release from the Power Department informed that at the meeting, Kenye stressed on the long pending need to boost power generation in Nagaland which has a potential of about 1000MW and made fervent request to the Union Minister Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, to consider for development of at least 500M W of hydro projects.
The Nagaland Minister also requested the Union Minister to give NE States some relaxation in the guidelines for implementing Central Sponsored Schemes with particular reference to the RDSS scheme. He also reiterated the pending request of Nagaland for the Lineman Training Centre building infrastructure under the CBIS of NERPSIP to which the Union Minister of Power agreed to provide the same.
The conference was chaired by Union Minister Manohar Lal. The meeting reviewed ongoing schemes in the NorthEastern States and deliberated on various issues of Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Power sector reforms in the region. The meeting also emphasized on measures to promote ease of living and power adequacy plan.
