The Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) issued a press release today stating that it has reaffirmed its decision to abstain from the upcoming 2023 Nagaland State General Election and any election processes of the state and central governments.
The decision was taken in support of the ENPO Resolution for separate statehood – Frontier Nagaland – made on 26 August 2022.
The PPC stated in the press release that it decided to stand by the ENPO Resolution on 21 September during the joint meeting at its Tribal Headquarter Longleng Town. The meeting was held with all the village council chairmen and members, head GBs and citizen presidents of all the villages under Longleng District.
During the joint meeting on 21 September, in addition to resolving that the Phom people will abstain from state or central governmental election processes until its demand for Frontier Nagaland is met, the PPC also “banned any election related campaigns by any political parties, candidate declaration program by any individuals, groups or party within its jurisdiction,” stated the press release.
