Pre-poll violence in Wokha, Noklak and Dimapur

Kohima: Of the total 2,315 polling stations in the state, 680 have been marked as vulnerable and 920 as critical polling stations

Pre-poll violence was reported in three districts in Nagaland ahead of the state Legislative Assembly elections which is just a week away.

Wokha: FIR was lodged against certain Bharatiya Janata Party workers of the 38th Wokha A/C from Longsa village following a scuffle with a supporter of Nationalist Congress Party.

As a result of the incident that took place around 7:45 pm, one person was hospitalized and some damages to properties were reported.

A reliable source later confirmed that the case was dismissed and settled by the two families of the main accused and the victim who both belonged to the same village.

It is also learned that the damage caused by the BJP workers will be compensated by 38th Wokha A/C BJP candidate.

Noklak: The supporters of Lok Janshakti Party and National People’s Party of 57th Thonoknyu A/C reportedly pelted stones at each other on Sunday afternoon that caused injuries to four persons including an elderly man who was hit on the head.

Law enforcement agencies controlled the situation for some time, but the atmosphere remained tensed.

Later in the evening, several vehicles were attacked including the Officer-in-Charge’s causing injuries and minor damages.

Dimapur: The supporters of opposing candidates of 2nd Dimapur-II A/C were engaged in a hostile confrontation at Indisen village on Saturday evening at around 7:45 pm, compelling the candidates and organisations to strongly condemn the incident and appeal for peace and harmony.

Nagaland chief electoral officer V Shashank Shekhar had earlier informed that the state has sought 305 companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) for the conduct of a free, fair and violence-free election.

The total number of voters in Nagaland is 13,17,634, which includes 7,983 service voters, 36,403 above 80 years of age and, 6,970 with disabilities.

There are total 2,315 polling stations in the state, which is an increase of 5.51 percent compared to 2019 when there were 2,199 polling stations.

Of the total, 680 have been marked as vulnerable and 920 as critical polling stations, the CEO had said.
