With the Election Commission of India expected to soon declare the poll dates for the Lok Sabha, preparations are in full swing in all districts of Nagaland.
On 1st March 2024, a one-day training for Election Sector Officers was held at DC Conference Hall, Tuensang where the ADC, Thungchanbemo Toungoe, highlighted the duties, role and responsibilities of the Sector Officers while performing their assign duties and to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the election in the district, DIPR informed. Hari Prasad Gupta, Assistant Head Master, Government High School, Hakushang, Tuensang was the Master Trainer.
In Mokokchung, the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Thsuvisie Phoji, has issued an order to conduct physical verification of all fire Arms and ammunition held by the Licensees in the District in accordance with the rules 30 and 112 of the Arms rules. The order was issued to ensure peaceful atmosphere in the District.
Therefore, all the Arms License holders under Mokokchung District are directed to report to the nearest concerned police station between 9:00 am to 3:00 pm latest by 29th March 2024 with arms/ammunition and License booklet for physical verification.
The officer -in-charge of the concerned Police Station shall furnish daily report in excel format with the required details: The name of the license holder, License No, UIN No, type of Arms License No, License last renewed date and No. of ammunition Available.
Earlier on 29th February, a one day training of Nodal officers’ for Enforcement Agencies for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 was held at DC Office Conference Hall, Mokokchung. The meeting was presided over by Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mokokchung.
During the training session of the Nodal officers from various departments, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized on the urgency of preparedness of the elections and urged to enhance co-operation and co-ordination amongst the officers.
Renben Mozhui, Assistant Election Officer, Mokokchung briefed the attendees. He urged the security stakeholders urging to keep vigilance particularly along the borders. The Excise department was tasked with enforcing regulations on liquor stocking and distribution with a mandate to eradicate illicit alcohol production. He also entrusted the department to combat narcotics smuggling along the border. In an attempt to control any illicit financial flows, the AEO called upon the Taxes department to closely monitor suspected conduits for election related cash influx.
In Chümoukedima, a coordination meeting cum EVM Demonstration for Sector Officers and Sector Commanders was held on 29th February, 2024 at DC Conference Hall, Chümoukedima.
According to DIPR, during the meeting, AERO & ADC, Chümoukedima, Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo and ADC, Medziphema, James Swu highlighted the rules and responsibilities of Sector Officers and Sector Commander. They informed the officers to coordinate with each other and directed them to physically visit their respective polling stations and ensure that they have all the facilities for conducting the voting process smoothly and asked them to be well equipped with the handling of the EVM.
Further, they requested the officers not to skip any training related to election and directed the officers for friendly infrastructure accessibility for PwDs and senior citizens and plan for separate entry and exit at the polling stations for them. They also informed them to submit a report before 5th of March, if there are any infrastructure issues or any other election related issues.
DIPR also said that the meeting had discussions on topics of election activities, election management plans, route mapping, vulnerability mapping etc. While, the SDO(C) Chumben Murry demonstrated the EVM set and functioning of each unit and shared the necessary information of EVM in details. He also informed the officers interested on hands on demonstration can come at any day and learn that is set up at DC & DEO Office, Chümoukedima at election branch.
