Nagaland is all set to host the G20 Summit, scheduled from 4-6 April at the State Banquet Hall Kohima, as the date draws near, preparations are in full swing to welcome the delegates. This is for the first time Nagaland will be witnessing and hosting such a big event for a convergence of 64 overseas delegates from 29 countries, including delegates from Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cote D’Ivoire, Cuba, Estonia, Germany, Ghana, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, Panama, Paraguay, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Shanavas C, IAS said that preparations for the G20 Summit are going on in full swing and informed that around 110-120 delegates will be arriving to Kohima tomorrow, including Ambassadors and Council Generals. Tomorrow evening, we have a welcome dinner at the State cultural hall and day after is the business summit in the State Banquet Hall followed by a cultural programme and gala dinner at the Naga Heritage, Kisama and 6 April they will visit the War cemetery and depart for Dimapur, he said.
Mentioning that Nagaland do not get such opportunities to host events such as G20, he said a mass social work in Kohima and along the Highways were conducted earlier today whereas, branding and advertisement is already put in place.
We are also requesting shops to extend their operating time because usually markets gets closed by 5pm, so that we can show the vibrant Town life of Kohima, said Shanavas.
Informing that adequate security has been put in place he said, “As far as possible police is trying so that the long range weapons bodyguards are not visible, policing will be there but to a very presentable we won’t create a very dangerous atmosphere with all the long range weapons,” adding that, even the VIPs and Z plus category have been requested to minimise their security personnels.
Further, he said the Kohima Traffic police have also issued a detailed advisory and for the commercial vehicles, Odd and Even system will be followed for the next 2 days.
Also, noting that there will be some inconvenience to the general public particularly Kohima, Shanavas appealed to the people to cooperate and support the state government as such events are rare in the State.
Meanwhile, taking advantage of the presence of a large contingent of international delegates, the Government of Nagaland is making elaborate arrangements not only to showcase investment and partnership opportunities in the State but also provide a unique experience for visiting delegates with an exposure to Nagaland’s culture, local cuisine, art, festivities, and scenic beauty. The delegation will be taken to the landmarks of the State including the Kisama Heritage Village to elicit the feeling of a mini Hornbill festival and Kohima War Cemetery. Elaborate and exhaustive preparations are underway in Kohima for showcasing the potential of the State for inviting investments during the B20 Conference.
A welcome dinner is being organised on 4 April at the State Cultural Hall and a mini Hornbill at The Heritage, Kisama on 5 April, where more than 100 artists from Nagaland will be performing, informed Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) Chairman Theja Meru.
“This is a very exciting event for us, having more than 20 countries to Nagaland is something to truly celebrate, we have bought in some of our finest artists like Folkloric, Tetseo Sisters, Choirs and dancers,” asserted Meru.
According to Meru, this event is an incredible opportunity as more than 20 countries will be witnessing what Nagaland is all about, the energy, culture, songs and dances. Also, an incredible window to see Nagaland and explore ways to collaborate and work together in the future in the International level.
“This is sort of again another meeting point of concerned people and hopefully in the days to come that people maximise and take advantage of the friendship that are going to be build over the next two days and use it to out advantage and promote our young people,” added Meru.
