Preparations in full swing for President’s visit

Kohima: Arriving on 2 November in Kohima for a two-day visit, this is President Murmu’s first visit to Nagaland after being elected as the first tribal woman president of India

Preparations are in full swing in Kohima ahead of the President of India Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Nagaland.

President Murmu will be arriving in Kohima, Nagaland for a two-day visit on 2 November. This will be her first visit to the state after being elected as the first tribal woman president of India.

On 2 November, a Civic Reception to welcome the President has been organised at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima. This will be followed by an evening of Cultural Night at the State Banquet Hall that will feature the performances of various artists from the state, informed Shanavas C, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Kohima.

During the Civic Reception, the following groups will present felicitations to the President:

Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization, Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization, other tribes and community representatives.

President Murmu will then conduct the virtual inauguration and laying of foundation stones/launching of projects.

The projects to be launched are:

  1. 13 new Government Primary Schools and 4 new Government Middle School buildings
  2. 14 new Government High Schools and 1 new Government Higher Secondary School building
  3. Government Higher Secondary School, Mon Auditorium
  4. 5 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Hostel buildings
  5. 2 Residential Hostels for underprivileged girl children in Mokokchung HQ and Peren HQ
  6. 13 bridges and 11 roads across Nagaland
  7. New Treasury building with State Bank of India Branch at Capital Complex, Kohima
  8. 10 Eklavya Model Residential Schools across Nagaland
  9. Setting up of Smart Classrooms in 190 Government Schools across Nagaland

The Kohima DC also said on the second day (3 November), the President will visit the historic World War II Cemetery and Kigwema Village where stalls have been set up by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM). The President will also interact with Self Help Groups (SHGs) and thereafter, leave for Mizoram.

Shanavas informed that Covid protocols have been put in place for the President’s visit and individuals attending the programmes have been asked to keep their face masks on at all times.

He also said that all security arrangements have been put in place for the President’s visit.

Apart from all the Administrative Heads of Departments and Heads of Departments, the government has also extended invitation to 22 tribal bodies to attend the civic reception. All guests representing the various tribes have been requested to wear traditional shawls. The Cultural program will be based on invitation only.
