President of India, Droupadi Murmu, celebrates her 66th birthday today. She was born on this day in 1958 at Uparbeda village, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, and later became the first woman from her village to receive college education.
Prior to taking oath as the 15th President of India on 26 July 2022, Murmu worked as a junior assistant at the irrigation department of the Government of Odisha and then as a teacher at the school Sri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Centre in Rairangpur, where she taught Hindi, Odia, mathematics, and geography.
In 1997, Droupadi Murmu was elected as the councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar and in 2000, she became a member of Odisha Legislative Assembly and served two terms. In 2009, she lost the Lok Sabha election. Murmu was elected to the BJP National Executive (ST Morcha) in 2013, and was the district president until 2015. She also served as the Governor of Jharkhand from May 2015 till July 2021.
In June 2022, the BJP nominated Murmu as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s candidate for President of India for the 2022 election which she won after securing a clear majority.
On the occasion of her birthday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the President and said that her life journey gives hope to crores of people.

The Vice-President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, accompanied by his wife Dr. Sudesh Dhankhar called on President Murmu to convey birthday greetings where he extended best wishes for a long, happy and healthy life.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge too wished the President of India on her birthday on behalf of the Congress party. “We wish you a long and healthy life. May your innate wisdom and steadfast commitment to India’s progress, welfare and justice, continue to guide all Indians”, Kharge posted on X.
