Kohima: The trainings for the Second Polling Officers and Third Polling officers and for Grade IV Staff Polling Personnel will be held on Thursday

The first round of District-Level Training for Presiding Officers and first Polling Officers Personnel in view of the forthcoming General Election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, 2023 was held on 1 February 2023 at Kohima College, Billy Graham Road, the office of Kohima Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer said.

In the training, the Master trainers emphasized the roles and responsibilities of Polling Officers and how the effectiveness and efficiency of the conduct of elections depend on them.

The Trainers urged all the POs to work with dedication as a team for the successful conduct of the Election in the district and asked them to go through all the guidelines and instructions in detail and also to clarify their doubts in case of any confusion in regard to their roles and duties either to RO, AERO or master trainers, the statement said.

The trainings were conducted for both male and female officers across 10 rooms. The Master trainers distributed a manual of EVM and VVPAT to the trainees.

Kohima DC and DEO, Shanavas C, IAS informed that the trainings for the Second Polling Officers and Third Polling officers and for Grade IV Staff Polling Personnel will be held on Thursday at the same venue.

He directed all the appointed Polling Personnel to attend the training program without fail, failing which disciplinary action shall be taken under relevant provisions of the Act, the statement added.

Elsewhere in Kiphire district, the training for the 2nd and 3rd Polling Officers were also conducted on Wednesday at Government Higher Secondary School, Kiphire.

DC & DEO Wati Aier informed that CC camera would be installed at 70 to 75 Polling Stations under 50 and 60 A/C. He further said that the election will be conducted under strict vigil by Observers from Kohima and from Delhi and therefore warned the Polling Personnel to follow the guidelines of ECI.

According to EAC HQ. Ane Khieya, nearly 600 polling personnel have been trained so far.

First round of Training for Presiding Officers and first Polling Officers Personnel at Peren on 1 February 2023.

In Peren Town, the first round of the training was held in three different locations: All Saint’s Hr. Sec. School, Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation Building, and Peren Town Council Hall.

In the first session, the trainees were given training on the duties and responsibilities of Polling Personnel, Security Personnel, and Polling Agents/Arrangement of Polling Station/Mock Poll/Start of Poll/Secrecy of voting, while in the second session, training was imparted on the topics; Refusal to observe voting procedure/Voting by Blind or Infirm/Electors Deciding Not to Vote/EDC/Tendered Vote/Adjournment or Stoppage of Poll/Close of Poll/Accounts of Votes Recorded/Sealing of EVM/VVPAT/Sealing of Election Papers.

The four-day long training programme will conclude on 4 February 2023.
