Delhi Chief Minister and leader of Aam Admi Party, Arvind Kejriwal walked out of Tihar Jail today after been granted bail by the Supreme Court of India in the now scrapped Delhi excise policy case.
“I have come out of jail with 100 times more courage and strength. The bars and walls of this prison could not reduce my courage,” Kejriwal told his supporters after being released.
He was arrested on 21st March 2024 by the Enforcement Directorate just weeks ahead of the General Elections, becoming the first sitting chief minister to be arrested. The Supreme Court granted him interim bail on 10th May in view of the Lok Sabha elections and Kejriwal being the leader of a National Party. He surrendered on 2nd June 2024.
Later, on 20th June, the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to him in connection to the money laundering case which was stayed the next day by the Delhi High Court.
On 12th July, Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the case filed against him by ED, however he was not released due to his arrest by the CBI on 26th July 2024.
Speaking at a roadshow in Delhi this evening, the Delhi CM alleged that some anti-national forces are trying to divide the country from within and weaken the judiciary and the Election Commission and that the ED and CBI are being captured. Kejriwal said that he has always fought these forces and continue to do so.
