The Thetsumi Village Council, under the leadership of Chairman Vetshe Tsuzuh and his team, along with Village Development Board (VDB) Secretary Mesevekha Doulo and his colleagues, organized a program on the Revision of Piggery Model at Thetsumi Village under Phek district on February 19, 2025.

A press release from the VDB Secretary informed that the event commenced with a prayer by Associate Pastor Lhouvezulo Nuh of Thetsumi Baptist Church (TBC), followed by a welcome address from Mesevekha Doulo, who emphasized the significance of piggery for the village and provided insights into best practices for pig rearing. Pastor Lhoukhrope Tsuzuh of Thetsumi Baptist Church then offered a dedicatory prayer, seeking blessings for the initiative.

The program concluded with the distribution of free piglets to beneficiaries.

The VDB Secretary highlighted the Revised Piggery Model was introduced to support local pig farmers following the outbreak of African Swine Fever in 2024, which resulted in the loss of all pigs in the village. This model includes key guidelines such as maintaining proper pig sties, banning the import of pigs from outside the village, and ensuring that piglets are sourced locally to prevent disease outbreaks.

The press release also stated that Thetsumi Village was the first among the Chakhesang community to enforce a ban on pig imports as a preventive measure against livestock diseases.

The piggery model was initially implemented in 1998 under the chairmanship of the late Mesechulo Lasuh (former Village Council Chairman) and that it took approximately seven to eight years to fully implement structured pig rearing in sties, a practice that continues to this day, the VDB Secretary added.
