‘Public Emergency’ restrictions in Eastern Nagaland suspended; 4 resolutions adopted at ENPO meeting

Tuensang: ENPO to convene another Public Meeting along with all 20 ENLU members within a week’s time at Tuensang HQ

The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) and its frontal organizations, on Tuesday decided to suspend the restrictions of the ‘Public Emergency’ in Eastern Nagaland region. This was resolved during the joint coordination meeting held at Tuensang Headquarter to discuss the non-settlement for the creation on Frontier Nagaland Territory by the Government of India despite being assured by Union Home Minister on 7 December, 2023.

In a statement, ENPO informed that the meeting passed three resolutions on the matter –

  1. The House unanimously resolved to uphold the 23 February 2024 Chenmoho village resolution “not to participate in any central and state election and all citizen of Eastern Nagaland shall refrain from casting vote” in protest against the failure of GoI. The House also endorsed ENPO to come up with strategies for successful implementation of this Public Resolution.
  2. The second unanimous resolution was that ENPO will write a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Gol not to entertain any write-up/ suggestions with regard to Frontier Nagaland Territory other than ENPO.
  3. Thirdly, the House endorsed ENPO to convene another Public Meeting along with all 20 ENLU members within a week’s time at Tuensang HQ in consultation with ENLU.
  4. Lastly, the House resolved to temporarily suspend all forms of ongoing restrictions under the Eastern Nagaland Public Emergency effective from 21st March 2024. However, the ‘Public Emergency’ will continue to be in force until further notice.

The meeting was attended by ENPO, Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO), Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), Chang Khulei Setshang, Konyak Union, Phom People’s Conference, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji, Yimkhiung Tribal Council and Eastern Sumi Hoho. The Tikhir Tribal Council could not attend the meeting due to circumstances but it extended its full support and solidarity with ENPO.

ENPO had also summoned the twenty Legislators from Eastern Nagaland and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) S Phangnon Konyak, however the members of the Easten Nagaland Legislative Union (ENLU) did not turn up for the meeting as they are in New Delhi.
