Belenso T Yimkhuing from Pungro Town, Kiphire.

Belenso T Yimkhuing from Pungro Town in Kiphire district found fame when a prototype he built went viral on social media. His invention was a voice-activated light control system which he had named TIGER. This impressive device could turn on or turn of lights in a room at voice command.

The invention fascinated and inspired the people of Nagaland because it was a brilliant indigenous innovation made with limited resources.

When asked the reason for naming his invention TIGER, he said he got the idea from a meme where a Yimkhuing lady is recorded saying Yimkhuing people have the blood of the tiger.

The son of a retired electrician, Belenso (20) has had the passion for engineering and machinery since he was a young boy and wishes to study electrical engineering at Zunheboto. He also has keen interest in robotics – his robotic arms were displayed at Kiphire district science exhibition recently.

Yimkhuing’s true love for science and engineering has resulted in the whole locality benefitting from it. He is a charitable boy who wants to share his knowledge and gifts with others.

Presently he has three boys from Pungro under his employment. He trains them to fix electrical faults and assist him in his projects.

Belenso T Yimkhuing has also initiated a repair service programme that offers free electrical repairs to students in Pungro town who live alone without their parents or stay in rented accommodations.

“A sum of Rs 500 will be credited in their accounts at the end of the year if they make use of this free electrical service,” reads the pamphlet.

This 20-year-old boy from Pungro town, Kiphire does give all something to reflect upon.
