Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS) emerged as the undisputed champions of the 1st Inter High School & Higher Secondary School Annual Basketball Tournament 2025, securing both the boys’ and girls’ championship titles in the grand finale held at the BAMD Basketball Court, Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung.
In the boys’ final, QMHSS defeated Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) with a decisive score of 59-29.
From the onset, QMHSS took control of the game, finishing the first quarter with a solid lead of 24-8. Their offensive rhythm and defensive coordination continued through the second quarter, closing it at 11-7.
In the third quarter, QMHSS further widened the gap with a 17-10 score, and sealed their
victory with a final push in the fourth quarter, adding another 7 points while restricting MGHSS to just 4. The final scoreboard stood at 59-29 in favour of QMHSS.
The road to the final saw QMHSS overpower Eden Academy with a score of 69-37 in the second semi-final. On the other hand, MGHSS secured their place in the final after a competitive win against Clark Memorial Higher Secondary School Impur in the first semi-final match with a score of 34-32.
MGHSS, despite their valiant effort, could not contain the pace and pressure imposed by Queen Mary’s relentless attack, as QMHSS scored 59 points to seal a dominant victory.
The match was officiated by a team of referees led by Crew Chief Merenlong, with umpires Temsutoshi and Tsungsanger ensuring fair play throughout.
In the girls’ final, QMHSS (in blue) triumphed over Eden Academy with a commanding score of 15-05, clinching the title and marking a clean sweep for the school in both categories.

Boys’ MPP: Imkongakum (Eden Academy)
Girls’ MVP: Tasenyangla Longchar (QMHSS)
Girls’ MPP: Narosen Lusang (Eden Academy)
The champions of both the boys and girls’ categories were awarded Running Trophies, along
with cash prizes and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance. The runners-up teams in each category also received cash awards and certificates for their commendable efforts throughout the tournament. Additionally, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Most Promising Player (MPP) from both divisions were honoured with certificates and cash incentives.

The closing ceremony of the tournament was graced by an official of the Assam Rifles, Mokokchung as the special guest. The event began with an invocation by Akangtemsu Yaden, Youth Director, MTBA, followed by a special number by Moakokla from MGHSS. After the final matches, Tutu Jamir, Convenor, delivered the vote of thanks, followed by the prize distribution and benediction.
As part of its ongoing effort to revive and strengthen the sport of basketball in the district, the
Basketball Association of Mokokchung District (BAMD) has selected 24 boys and 14 girls from various schools for a dedicated coaching and scouting programme. The selected players, listed by the scouting committee, were identified based on their performance during the recently held 1st Inter High School and Higher Secondary School Annual Basketball Tournament 2025. The initiative aims to nurture promising talents by providing mentorship under experienced coaches. BAMD expressed that this scouting initiative is a significant step in developing grassroots basketball and encouraged all selected players to actively participate and make the most of the opportunity.
