Upon his arrival in Imphal on 14th January 2024, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit the significant Khongjom War Memorial before the flagging off of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) which will take place at a private ground at Khongjom in Thoubal District, Manipur.
Khongjom War Memorial Complex is a memorial commemorating the greatest battle of the Anglo-Manipur War that took place 1891 where many were martyred in the fight for freedom. The importance of this war memorial is not only for Manipur but for the entire country, Jairam Ramesh, AICC General Secretary (Communications) said in a media conference in Imphal on Saturday.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is starting at the place on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been silent for the last eight months, the Congress leader said. “PM Modi has not broken his silence on the violence that has taken place in Manipur, the social tension that has taken place, lakhs of people have been displaced, people have been killed. There can be no greater injustice than this on the people of Manipur,” he added
Ramesh also said that this edition of the Bharat Jodo Yatra will raise issues of social, economic and political injustice that has taken place in the last 10 years.
The Congress General Secretary informed that during the yatra, Gandhi will meet different civil organizations and the public and tell them about what is in the mind of the Congress party. Public meetings will also be held but Ramesh maintained that BJNY is an ideological journey, not an election journey.
It was also informed at the media conference that “a big program” will be organised in Guwahati on 23 January 2024 regarding the Congress Manifesto for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.
On Saturday, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge invited the leaders of INDIA alliance again to join the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra “at their convenience and use the opportunity to raise the social, political and economic issues plaguing common people of this country.”
In a post on X, Kharge had also informed that the virtual meeting with the leaders of INDIA Coordination Committee was fruitful. “Everyone is happy that the seat sharing talks are progressing in a positive way, he added.”
