Hyderabad’s Rahul Singh Gahlaut hit the first double century of the 2023-24 season of the Ranji Trophy at Sovima Cricket Ground in Chümoukedima on Friday. The feat came at the cost of the host team as Hyderabad put a massive score of 474/5 in 76.4 overs before declaring the innings on the first day of the test match.
Gahlaut’s 200 off 143 balls is now the second fastest double century in Indian First Class cricket. Cricket icon Ravi Shastri holds the record for the fasted double ton which he hit from 123 balls in 1985. Gahlaut’s 214 runs, his career highest, included 23 fours and nine sixes.

Hyderabad’s opener Tanmay Agarwal contributed 80 runs from 109 balls while Captain Tilak Varma scored a century.
Nagaland’s Karan Tewatiya, Nagaho, Imliwati, Khrievitso and Captain R Jonathan each took a wicket.
At stumps, Nagaland was at 35/1 and trailing by 439 runs with Joshua at 28 and Sedezhalie at 7. Opener Nzanthung Y Mozhui fell to T Raja Teja without opening his account.
Earlier Nagaland had won the toss and decided to bowl.
