Real essence of democracy comes when no one is left behind: Mokokchung DC on National Voters’ Day

Kohima: DC acknowledges outstanding contribution BLOs towards cleansing of E Rolls and enrolling eligible voters

Along with the rest of the country, Mokokchung district celebrated the 14th National Voters ‘Day under the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure” on Thursday at the DC Conference Hall, Mokokchung.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, the Special Guest, congratulated all the newly enrolled voters and encouraged them to exercise their franchise for good governance to fulfil their vision they have for the state. He stated that democracy is not only about casting of one’s votes but the real essence of democracy comes out when all eligible voters are registered and no one is left behind.

Highlighting on the status of women representation in the state legislative body, he encouraged the women to participate in the election process and to present themselves as representatives of the district as well as the state.

On behalf of the District Election Office, the Deputy Commissioner also acknowledged the outstanding contribution of all the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) towards cleansing of the E Rolls and enrolling all eligible voters for the betterment of the democratic process. He also administered the voter’s pledge.

On the occasion of National Voters’ Day befitting tributes were paid to three BLOs who expired in 2023 for their contribution.

During the programme, ten best BLOs were awarded and given them the recognition certificated and cash for their outstanding contributions.

The programme was chaired by Renben Mozhui, Assistant Election Officer, Mokokchung while Dr. Limasenla Jamir DLMT and Asst. Prof. FAC delivered the key note address and highlighted on the theme “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure”. The other highlights of the programme included special presentation by Kum. Imlichila Kichu, special address on “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” by Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao, SDO(C) Hq and Nodal Officer BBBP.

National Voters’ Day is celebrated every year to encouraged, facilitate and maximize the enrolment of new voters. Dedicated to the voters of the country, the day is utilized to spread awareness among the voters and also for promoting informed participation in the electoral process. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by EAC Mokokchung Hq. Vitolu.
