Recovery of arms and ammunition in Manipur

Acting on specific information about the presence of arms and ammunition in general area Chanung Top in Imphal East District of Manipur, the Indian Army Manipur Police from Kangpokpi and Imphal East District launched a joint operation on July 17.

This was informed in a press release issued by the PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh.

The 72 hour long operation, wherein Patrol dogs and Explosive Detection Dogs were deployed, resulted in recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition to include thirteen Long range Mortars, four Burmese Iron rod Improvised Explosive Device, one Modified Grenade Launcher, one G3 Rifle, six 303 Rifles, one .22 Pistol, a Grenade, 25 locally made Improvised Explosive Devices 115 rounds ammunition of various weapons, three magazines of various weapons, two Radio Sets and other war like stores.

The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police for further disposal and investigation.
