Regional Workshop for promotion of wider adoption of PM GatiShakti NMP underway in Guwahati

Guwahati: Senior officers from the eight Northeast States participated in the workshop and presented their experiences and status of work on PM GatiShakti

A two-day regional workshop on PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP), is underway at Guwahati. The programme is being organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt of India with the objective of the to promote wider adoption of PM GatiShakti for holistic planning, bring more vigour and build synergy with all the stakeholders of the NMP, PIB stated in a press release.

The workshop was addressed by Anurag Jain, Secretary, DPIIT, Lok Ranjan, Secretary, DONER and Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary, DPIIT.

Over 140 participants including senior government officials related to infrastructure, the economic and social sectors from different Central Ministries, State departments, NITI Aayog, and representatives from multilateral agencies are participating in the workshop to share their experiences, best practices, and vision.

Senior officers from the eight Northeast States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura are also participating in the workshop, and presented their experiences and status of work on PM GatiShakti.

PM GatiShakti is a transformative approach which was launched on 13 October 2021 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for planning & building Next Generation Infrastructure in the country, thereby promoting multimodal logistics connectivity to improve both Ease of Living as well as Ease of Doing Business.

On the inaugural day, discussions were held on infrastructure planning for multimodal connectivity with use cases from Ministries and Departments at the Centre and State levels. Presentations on the adoption of PM GatiShakti with a holistic approach and demonstrations of best practices by States also featured in the workshop.

Deliberations on requirements for State Master Planning, with special attention on data quality management, cluster-based area approach to developing economic centres in the North East, strengthening the North East corridor through adequate multimodal connectivity, holistic planning approach for upcoming infrastructure projects, use of technology for logistics efficiency through Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), were the main highlights of the first day of the programme.

Asenla Walling, Executive Engineer Dept. of Industries & Commerce, Govt of Nagaland in her presentation on States used cases of PM GatiShakti NMP mentioned the propose development of Logistic Infrastructure around the Nagaland Express Highway covering 7 (seven) Border Districts.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dawra told reporters that the workshop focused on development of economic centres in the region through appropriate infrastructure and logistics set up.

It was also decided to strengthen the north east corridor with adequate multimodal connectivity to economic centres and gateway ports and identify critical infrastructure gaps and ensure they are taken up for connectivity projects, she added.

The second day of the workshop will feature sessions on the National Logistics Policy and state logistics policies and drawing an understanding for creating sustainable cities.
