Removing tobacco from society is everybody’s responsibility: SP Zunheboto on World No Tobacco Day

Zunheboto: Rewards of staying away from tobacco – long life, good oral health, strong mind concentration and energy

World No Tobacco Day program at Zunheboto

District Tobacco Control Cell, National Tobacco Control Programme, Zunheboto observed World No Tobacco Day under the theme “We Need Food, Not Tobacco” at Zunheboto Government College on Wednesday with Vishal Chauhan, IPS, Superintendent of Police Zunheboto as the guest of honour.

SP Chauhan, speaking on the occasion, stated it was our responsibility to remove the evil of tobacco from the society. He lauded the NTCP for their efforts in their fight against tobacco. He stated such important awareness programs can be implemented but it requires the efforts and contribution from the students as well to make it a success.

During the event, Chauhan officially launched the Tobacco Free Campaign, which is for the next 60 days and requested the participants to come forward and support the campaign for a better cause.

Theme speaker Dr K Akaho Sema, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto talks about the major concerns and diseases caused by tobacco. He stated that the students spend more money on tobacco products instead of consuming and buying good nutritious food. He further stressed that rewards of staying away from tobacco are long life, good oral health, strong mind concentration and energy.

Easter H. Yepthomi, Retainer Lawyer, Zunheboto District Legal Service Authority (ZDLSA) gave a detailed presentation on COPTA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) 2003.

Certificates and prizes were presented and handed out to the forty Tobacco Free Schools and institutions during the No Tobacco Day program.

The program was chaired by Dr Rosy Yhome, Sr. Dental Surgeon, District Hospital, Zunheboto, welcome address as delivered by Dr K Kalito Chishi, Principal Zunheboto Government College and vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Esther Chophy Ngullie, District Nodal Officer, NTCP Zunheboto.

Information, education, and communication (IEC) materials were distributed to the participants.

The programme was attended by medical officers, staffs under CMO and District hospital establishment, government teachers, Bharat Scouts & Guides Zunheboto and students from various schools.
