The Rengma Hoho has directed the Rengma Mothers’ Association to dissociate itself from the Naga Mothers’ Association ‘for the interest of the whole Nagas’. The apex body of the Rengma tribe also advised the women’s body to consult with it before participating in any other organisational platform.

‘RH will not allow any of its constituent units to participate or allow to be member of any other organization which works to widen the social divide and bring detriment to its own people,’ it stated.

The directives are consequent of the recent commotion surrounding Naga Mother’s Association. The Angami Public Organisation and Chakhesang Public Organisation had earlier slammed NMA for its support of the Urban Local Body election with 33 percent Women Reservation. The two organisations also condemned the Mothers’ body for organising an open discussion on the issue.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Rengma Hoho questioned the NMA’s claims of having no connection with People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), the petitioners in the Supreme Court case for the ULB elections in Nagaland.

‘In the midst of these doldrums if the NMA has consciously withdrawn and disconnected itself from organizations outside Nagaland, it is appreciated,’ it added.

While appreciating the Government of Nagaland for ‘repealing of Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA) 2001’ and RH stated that the ‘positive action’ has saved Nagas from ‘further predictable bloodshed’. It warned that any attempt ‘to tinker with Article 371A will invite the wrath of our entire Naga Society’.
