An ICSSR-sponsored 10-Day Research Methodology Course for Research Scholars was inaugurated at Nagaland University’s Dept of Teacher Education on February 10, 2025. The course Is’aimed at enhancing the research skills and capabilities of young research scholars by providing comprehensive understanding of both qualitative and quantitative research methods. The inaugural program was graced by Prof. Ramesh C. Patel, Vice Chancellor of Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE), Gujarat as Guest of Honour, and Prof, G.T. Thong, Pro Vice Chancellor, Kohima campus as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Prof. G.N. Tiwari, HoD, and Prof. P.K. Pattnaik, Course Director.
In his address, Prof. Ramesh C. Patel highlighted the expectation from the young researcher at the juncture of 100 years of Independent India (1947 to 2047). He urged the participants to give special emphasis to basic understanding of research knowledge and practices in research like sampling frame, research question, research objectives, etc. Prof. Patel also emphasized on intellectual honesty in research as it is the need of the hour in this era of artificial intelligence. He also asserted that knowledge and understanding in research will ultimately influence policy-making and teacher education practices in India in general and Nagaland in particular.

Prof, G.T. Thong, PVC elaborated on the importance of scientific process of research in educational research. He expressed appreciation for the efforts given by the organizers, which enables young research scholar to learn new things. Earlier, Prof. Gyanendra Nath Tiwari, Head of the Department, in his welcome address, highlighted the significance of research methodology in academic and professional growth. Prof. Tiwari emphasized the role of rigorous research practices in contributing to educational reforms and policy development, particularly in the context of teacher education. The background note of the Research Methodology Course was delivered by Prof. P.K. Pattnaik, Course Director. He elaborated on the need and importance of research course, while also highlighting the topics that will be taught by resource persons from across the country in the next 10 days.
The program concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Sushil Kumar Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Teacher Education, Nagaland University. He gratefully acknowledged the presence of dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, and the course participants. Special appreciation was extended to the organizing team for the efforts in coordinating the event and to the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. The session chaired by Dr. Seema R. Thappa was attended by 200 participants.
