Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, on Saturday assured that adequate stocks of rice are now available at Fair Price Shops (FPS) across the district and distribution has already commenced.
Clarifying concerns over the non-release of rice under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for January and February 2026, the Deputy Commissioner said he had already taken up the matter with the District Civil Supply Officer.
He informed that the previous stockist had terminated his supply contract, resulting in the disruption of rice distribution for January. “Now a new stockiest has been appointed, so they will supply this month. They have already lifted the quota for both months—January and February,” he disclosed.
Dr Chang further informed that distribution began on Friday at Padumpukhuri and will continue in other areas.

When asked about the reason for the termination of the contract, the Deputy Commissioner said he was not aware of the specific grounds but clarified that the termination was initiated by the stockist and not by the government. He added that the department had informed the district administration that the stockist had voluntarily decided to end the contract.
