Rio government is anti-student and anti-youth: RPP demands Minister Imna Along be relieved of Higher Education portfolio

The Rising People’s Party, in a press statement on April 23, has demanded the resignation of Minister Temjen Imna Along from his Higher Education portfolio. It also labelled the Rio Government as “anti-student and anti-youth”.

“Once upon a time, the Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education Imna Along declared bombastically that henceforth there would be no more appointments from the backdoor, window or the ceiling. Today he has managed to provoke every right thinking citizen on the issue of regularization of 147 Asst. Professors and Librarians. While the provocateur-in-chief Imna Along is the target of everyone’s ire, and rightly so, Rio’s Cabinet is to be equally blamed for the regularization,” stated the RPP.

The Party claimed that the 147 issue has clearly shown that “Rio government is anti-student and anti-youth”.

“The Minister in charge of an important department such as Higher Education should be someone who has some semblance of integrity and character. It’ll be worthwhile to recollect that there’s also a fraud case pending in the Bombay High Court against the Hon’ble Minister. In the interest of fairness and justice, the RPP demands that Imna Along be relieved of his Higher Education portfolio,” asserted the RPP.

Viewing the 147 matter as a prestige issue, the RPP highlighted the disastrous consequences for the future generation if the student community back off without the issue being settled.

“The just demand of CTAN and NNQF will have to be fulfilled. The delay tactic of the NDDP led government in constituting a Committee to study the 147 issue is insulting, demeaning and tone deaf,” it stated.

“The issue of contractual appointment is all pervasive. It’s only a matter of time before the same issue surfaces in other departments as well. Therefore, while the iron is hot, CTAN/NNQF/NSF must extract from the government its solemn undertaking that all contractual appointments done after June 6, 2016, is illegal and contrary to the Office Memorandum dated June 6 2016 banning contractual appointments, and two, that Rio’s government will immediately requisition all these posts either to the NPSC or NSSB for conduct of examination,” added the Party.
