In a case of drunk-driving, a car hit a two-wheeler in Kohima’s Secretariat Road on Friday, injuring the two-wheeler rider, a female, critically.
Police said a suo motu case has been registered and the driver of the car has been taken into custody.
The incident took place at around 9 AM, when the car, a Maruti-800 bearing registered No.AS-01 AF-0616 hit one Scooty which was coming from the opposite direction toward Secretariat side at the Secretariat Road near Niathu Gardens.

CCTV footage from a nearby establishment showed that the road was empty but the car suddenly veered towards the two-wheeler which was approaching on its own lane and hit the latter.
The driver has been identified as one Samuel Kemp of Sendenyu village. Police said there was another occupant in the car, identified as Langkhang Khiamniungan from Noklak district. They were both arrested from the spot and subsequently sent for medical examination.
Upon examination, it was confirmed that both individuals were under the influence of alcohol. A case has been registered against the individuals involved under relevant sections of the law, police stated.
Meanwhile, the victim is said to have been admitted at a hospital in Kohima in a critical condition.
