Traffic has resumed on the Japukong Range road near Nokpu village after a rockslide had blocked the key lifeline route, causing access between Mangkolemba and Longchem. The road was cleared today through coordinated efforts by the Public Works Department (R&B) and local villagers.
Chubatoshi, Executive Engineer of PWD (R&B) Mangkolemba Block, led the clearance operation, deploying machinery and mobilising workers right after Sunday church service. He was accompanied by
Thangem Khiam, SDO Longchem; Imlimar, JE; Tsukjem, retired SDO; and skilled rock workers from
Mangkolemba. Local villagers from Nokpu, Lirmen, and Aonokpu also actively participated in the effort.
Chubatoshi informed that the team adopted a different technique using stone crushers, as the rock involved in the slide was resistant to blasting. He stated, “We performed our departmental duty. It was our responsibility, and we have ensured that the road is cleared for all commuters.”
