Roof collapse in New Delhi IGI Airport kills cab driver, injures several others

Continued heavy rainfall in the capital city led to a roof collapse in Terminal 1 of IGI Airport around 5 am today. It has been reported that a cab driver was killed and six others injured in the incident. Following the incident, the Delhi Airport International Ltd (DAIL) have set up a technical committee to look into the matter, and all departures and arrivals at T1 have been suspended till further notice.

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu paid a visit to the victims in Safdarjung and AIIMS hospitals and announced a compensation for both the deceased and injured. Meanwhile, opposition leaders blamed a shoddy infrastructure amidst a hasty inauguration of the recently expanded T1 by PM Modi.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi, for the next six days, would witness generally cloudy skies and gusty winds with varying intensities of rain.
