In commemoration of World Polio Day, held every year on October 24, the members of Rotary Club Mokokchung organized a Car Rally within the premises of Mokokchung Town to spread awareness about Polio and to encourage community participation during Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programs which would go a long way in eradicating Polio.

It may be mentioned that Rotary International has been a key partner in the global effort to eradicate polio for over 40 years, through its support for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Rotary raises funds, advocates with governments, and provides volunteers to help immunize children and build community trust in vaccination programs worldwide, significantly reducing polio cases by over 99%.

The organization’s initial efforts began with a project in the Philippines in 1979, leading to the creation of its PolioPlus program in 1985.

Rotary raises funds for polio eradication, with a commitment of over $2.1 billion since the program began. The Gates Foundation matches these contributions, with Rotary and the Gates Foundation working to secure additional funding. Members work directly with communities, often in partnership with organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and Government Institutions, to build trust and ensure vaccines reach families, even in hard-to-reach or conflict-affected areas.

The Rotary Club of Mokokchung encouraged every individual to actively participate in the effort to eradicate Polio from the face of the world.
