The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has urged the Army and Air Force authorities to urgently consider the life-threatening impact of sonic booms caused by jet fighters or possible controlled explosions of bombs and ammunition over civilian areas, particularly Dimapur town.
In a statement, the RPP said that on January 28, 2026, a powerful sonic boom ripped through Dimapur town, rattling in particular a private hospital housing many critical patients, causing one of the patients to undergo a massive cardiac arrest.
It said when the then Interlocutor, RN Ravi declared that Naga peace talks had concluded, sonic boom became a regular occurrence in Dimapur area. “Whether this was a coincidence or an intimidatory tactic, cannot be established but it certainly created fear psychosis amongst the population,” the statement said.

The party called upon the defence authorities to issue a clear clarification regarding the January 28 incident and to ensure that such incidents are not repeated again. It further appealed to the Nagaland state government to intervene and take up the matter with higher authorities to ensure that low-altitude flyovers in and around Dimapur are strictly prohibited or banned altogether, citing serious health concerns of individuals especially patients and safety concerns over the structural integrity of buildings.
RPP also urged the Nagaland Pollution Control Board to take cognizance of the matter, pointing out that the maximum permissible noise level in Indian cities, as defined by the Central Pollution Control Board, is 75 decibels in industrial areas, whereas sonic booms can range between 110 and 120 decibels — far exceeding safe limits.
