The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has submitted a representation to the Chief Minister of Nagaland on the matter of the nomination of non-Nagas to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and also the appointment of the new Gaon Bura (GB) of New Market. Dimapur.
Stating its support to the Naga student community who have criticized the proposed nomination of non-Nagas to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), the RPP has expressed its opposition of the recommendation letters by Advisor Zhaleo Rio and Advisor Tovihoto Ayemi for the “nomination of two individuals from the Muslim and Gorkha community”.
The RPP stated that apart from the indigenous Naga tribes there are other non-Naga indigenous tribes in the state such as Kukis, Garos, and Kacharis, and any nomination should be from within the indigenous tribal community of the state.
On the matter of the appointment of GB of New Market, the Party has urged the PDA government to strongly desist from appointing non-Nagas as the replacement of the late GB who was tragically murdered in June this year.
“There is no necessity in playing appeasement politics when the future of the indigenous tribals are at stake due to unchecked mass immigration of aliens,” RPP stated.
Further, the Rising People’s Party has appealed the State Government to issue a fresh notification relating to the appointment of GBs stating that the previous notification issued in 2010 “is vague and full of loopholes”.
The RPP pointed out that the previous notification had missed the words “Indigenous” and “Tribal” “allowing unscrupulous officers to even appoint people of doubtful ancestry” and stressed that it is that the fresh notification should incorporate the line “A person seeking appointment to the post of GB must be an INDIGENOUS TRIBAL citizen of the state.”
For the non-Naga non-tribal Indigenous inhabitants’ nomenclatures such as “Representatives”, etc., may be used instead of GB in the urban areas, the Party added.
