The Run 4 Green Dimapur Culmination Programme was held on Saturday at the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Office, marking the successful conclusion of the marathon initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness and cleaner air.

The programme was organised by the Dimapur Municipal Council in collaboration with the District Administration, Dimapur Development Authority, Department of Environment and Climate Change, Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), and the National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC), alongside partner NGOs including Team Better Dimapur, Can Youth, and Pro-Rural.

Lensanaro chaired the culmination programme, while Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Chief Executive Officer of DMC, delivered the welcome address.

Speaking at the event, Boka Rochill of the National Youth Climate Consortium described Run 4 Green Dimapur as “the start of a transformative journey for the city.”

“Run4Green is not just a run, it is a new chapter and a new beginning to make Dimapur greener and healthier,” Rochill emphasised.

He highlighted that the initiative serves as a call to action for the community, especially the youth, to take an active role in building a sustainable and environmentally conscious future. The marathon, he said, successfully brought together citizens, government departments, and organisations to raise awareness on clean air, tree plantation, and environmental conservation.

Expressing optimism, he added that the movement will spark lasting change and make Dimapur a role model for other cities in environmental responsibility.

Delivering a short address, LH Thangi Mannen, Director and Founding Member of Earth Alliance Nagaland, underscored that Run 4 Green Dimapur is “more than just an event—it is a personal and collective commitment to the environment.”

“It’s not only about running for a greener Dimapur, but also about running for ourselves. To build a much greener future, the movement must begin today,” Mannen stated.

She urged the younger generation to take the lead in such initiatives, noting that sustained and expanded efforts will have a lasting impact for generations to come.

Encouraging the youth to take the lead, she appealed to the younger generation to actively participate in these kinds of initiatives, as they are the key to shaping a sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

Highlighting the unprecedented collaboration, EAC Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur said it was remarkable to see multiple government agencies unite under a shared vision for a greener Dimapur.

“This is the first time so many government agencies have united as one. We must contribute by planting more trees, making Dimapur greener, and awaken from our complacency,” she stressed.

Yanathung Kithan, Member Secretary of the NPCB, also addressed the gathering reinforcing the importance of community participation and collective action in tackling environmental challenges.

Speakers throughout the programme echoed a common message: that protecting the environment requires urgent, united efforts from all stakeholders. The Run 4 Green initiative, they said, has set a strong foundation for ongoing activities to improve Dimapur’s air quality, increase green cover, and inspire a culture of environmental responsibility.

Run for Green Dimapur concluded with an enthusiastic turnout of participants across categories. The prize distribution ceremony was conducted by Adrian M Mahung, marking the highlight of the event.

In the Open Men’s category, Abhishek Yadav emerged as the winner, while Prince Yadav secured the runner-up position. In the Open Women’s category, Tsuchoi T clinched the top spot, followed closely by Songmo P, who finished as runner-up.
