Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor SCERT and School Education inaugurated the Rüzhükhrie GHSS block building on 18 July at the Rüzhükhrie GHSS campus Kohima.
During the inaugural, Yhome stated that the RGHSS Kohima -a thriving institution with a student body exceeding 940, a dedicated faculty of 70 teachers, and supported by 14 staff members- has consistently achieved success, garnering pride from the community. The principal expressed optimism about further advancements and highlighted the school’s role in nurturing leaders from diverse segments of Naga society. He urged the current students to uphold this legacy of leadership.
Yhome emphasized on the government’s obligation to ensure free education for all children in Nagaland, irrespective of their geographical location. “Efforts are being channeled into expanding the educational framework to reach all corners of the state. Presently, the government administers 1939 schools and 53 higher secondary institutions, with plans underway to establish additional higher secondary schools in the future,” mentioned the Advisor.
In compliance with the Government of India’s directive mandating colleges to discontinue offering classes 11 and 12, Yhome informed that 15 colleges, including seven from Kohima, halted operations at these levels last year.
He highlighted the significant accomplishment in Mon District this year, where 1439 students graduated despite limitations hindering some from studying outside the district. A higher secondary school created from a primary school upgradation provided a positive impact. However, he rued over the neglected demolition of Wakching High School, the area’s first high school in the eastern region.
Yhome urged the principal and teachers to preserve the historic building from the British era, honoring its legacy as a heritage site and a symbol of Kohima’s unity. “The building is envisioned to become a beacon of beauty and inspiration, enriching the city’s intellectual and cultural landscape. Its protective features and role in fostering a tradition of leadership are cherished and expected to continue through new developments,” stated Yhome.
He emphasized that building protects us from elements and envisioned it as a cornerstone in nurturing a new generation of leaders among the community, and expressed hope that they will make good use of the building and continue the legacy of contributing successful leaders.
Furthermore, the Advisor assured that the concerns raised by the school’s teachers and staff would be addressed promptly.
