S. Supongmeren Jamir, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) candidate for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, was born on October 25th, 1963, in Longsa Village, Mokokchung to Late Shilumanyang Alemsola and has three daughters and a son.

His academic journey commenced at Ongpangkong High School, Mokokchung, now known as N.I Jamir Govt. Higher Secondary School, where he matriculated in 1979. He pursued his graduation at FAC, Mokokchung, culminating in an LLB from Mew College, Mokokchung, in 1993.

Jamir’s leadership skills emerged early, serving as President of the Longsa Students Union in 1980. His influence expanded as he assumed roles such as Finance Secretary of the Ongpangkong Students Union (1987-89) and General Secretary of the Naga Students Federation (1989-91), Senior Counselor, Naga Students Federation (1991-92), Executive Chairman, Ao Student Union, Kohima.

A staunch advocate for students’ rights, Jamir undertook a patriotic fast unto death in 1990, highlighting issues of superannuation age within the Naga Students Federation.

Beyond his academic and student activism, Jamir actively engaged in social endeavors, holding positions like President of Lions Club, Longsa (1983-85) and serving as a member of the National Service Scheme in College. His commitment to social welfare earned him recognition, including the Glory to India Award for outstanding and extraordinary achievement in Social Service rendered to Promote greater Friendship and Cooperation, 17th March 2002, New Delhi and Friendship Forum of India Bharat Award for contribution towards Economic Growth and National Unity, New Delhi.

In the realm of politics, Jamir joined the Congress as an active member in 1982 and held various positions within the party, including President of Youth Congress (1) Longsa 1982-83, President, 25 Mongoya Assembly Constituency Youth Congress (I) (ACYC) 1983-89, and President NSUI, (National Student Union of India) 1983-89 of 25th Mongoya Assembly Constituency.

Jamir also attended the North East Congress National Training Camp at Dimapur in the capacity of Joint Secretary of the Mokokchung District Youth Congress. He has been an active member of the Indian National Congress, with Registration No. NAO-0007103. Additionally, Jamir has been serving as the General Secretary of the Nagaland Ex-Parliamentarian Association since 2018. He was formerly the General Secretary of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee and is currently serving as its President.

In 2003, he contested in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election and won from the 25th Mongoya Assembly Constituency. However, he was defeated in the 2008 election.

Jamir’s professional career includes Asst. Teacher, Government High School Bumei under Mon District, Nagaland during 1981-82, resigned and joined the Congress party as President Mongoya Assembly Constituency Youth Congress, Personal Secretary to the Minister of Power, Fisheries and Political Affairs, Nagaland 1993-96, Elected of Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 2003 General Election and he served as the State Brand Ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) nominated by Governor of Nagaland from 2017 to 2020.

Additionally, Jamir served as the Personal Secretary to the then Chief Minister of Nagaland (1996-2002).
