Sabda Institute of TESOL (SITESOL) was launched at Capital College, Kohima on Friday with the mission is to use language teaching as a means to reach the unreached and make disciples of Christ. They seek to do this by training willing men and women to use their talents and skills of teaching.
SITESOL Director Veduzolü Kezo mentioned that with the advent of globalization, the number of cross-cultural and intercultural interactions has exponentially increased and in this context, English language has become the main medium not only for education but in all human interactions including the businesses and the corporate world. She added that this had inevitably led to the need to learn English and thus, the demand of English teachers, especially in the non-English speaking countries. However, it is a necessity for both native speakers and speakers of other language to have TESOL certificate as the requirement to teach English.

Sabda Institute of TESOL has been established in response to a need of trained English language teachers which is in demand in both English speaking and non-English speaking countries. Having a TESOL certificate is the primary requirement to teach English in a cross-cultural setting, for both native speakers and speakers of other languages.
SITESOL will cater to both theological and secular graduates who desire to serve as missionaries or to advance in their profession in teaching English. The course will open doors for candidates to travel abroad for inter-cultural exposure, gain enriching experiences, changing and touching lives through teaching, and earn for self-sustenance at the mission fields.
Kezo added that SITESOL program will provide high quality training to qualified candidates. The curriculum encompasses aspects of English language as well as theories of learning and teaching.
The SITESOL program basically functions on Christian principles based on the mandate to teach and make disciples. Therefore, SITESOL endeavours to offer holistic approach to learning where the candidates will not only learn the techniques of teaching the English language but will be immersed in Christian discipleship which is integrated into the curriculum.
The director also mentioned that TESOL which stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language “is the mother-certification for preparation to teach English to secondary language learners located both in native English speaking countries and countries of other majority languages. TESOL incorporates both of what used to be called TEL (Teaching English as Foreign Language), and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).”
The TESOL course will be held at Capital College, Kohima from 21 August to 23 September 2023. The institute is offering full certificate course meant for teaching any level of learners, with five weeks of intensive training with the curriculum provided by its partner, ASEAN Center for TESOL, Chiang Mai, Thailand. It has the endorsement for quality standard by the Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA.
