Sanitation drive held at Kiphire’s Pongren village

An awareness programme and sanitation drive under the SBI Sanjeevani Clinic on Wheels, an initiative of Nature SBI Foundation Nagaland under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, was held at Pongren Village, Kiphire on February 26.

The programme was chaired by Pikhumla, Staff Nurse, Nature SBI Foundation, Kiphire Nagaland.

The programme began with an invocation prayer by the Pastor of Pongren Village Baptist Church, seeking blessings for the health and well-being of the people and the success of the initiative. Pongren Village Council Chairman delivered the welcome address. He warmly welcomed the team and expressed sincere gratitude to Nature SBI Foundation Nagaland for organizing the health camp and programmes. He stated that the team has been regularly visiting the village, and their services have greatly benefited the villagers.  He also thanked the team for providing useful materials to the community.

Materials were distributed to the villagers by Shri Irothe T Sangtam, President of Longmatra Area Students’ Union, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative to promote cleanliness and hygiene.

A special awareness session on the importance of waste management was delivered by Longtili C Sangtam, Project Lead, Nature SBI Foundation Nagaland.  He explained that proper waste management means collecting, handling, and disposing of waste safely to keep the environment clean and healthy.  He emphasized the need to separate waste into wet waste, dry waste, and hazardous waste. He also encouraged villagers to use dustbins and avoid throwing waste in open places.

Sangtam explained the importance of the 3Rs principle of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and said that organic waste can be turned into compost for farming. He warned that plastic waste harms animals and nature and should be reduced.

He further said that proper waste management helps prevent diseases and protects public health, urging everyone to take responsibility for keeping their homes and surroundings clean, as clean surroundings create a healthy and beautiful community.
