Sano Vamuzo receives Padma Shri Award from President of India

New Delhi: President presents 2 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri Awards for 2024

Sano Vamuzo received the Padma Shri Award from President of India, Droupadi Murmu at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held with grandeur in Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 9th May 2024. Vamuzo, the former chairperson of Nagaland Women Commission and a founding member of the Naga Mothers’ Association, was honoured by the country for her contributions in the field of Social Work.

“She is a social worker and an educationist. Smt. Vamuzo has worked on wide-ranging issues such as women rights, drug and alcohol abuse, education, health, economic exploitation and deforestation,” the Office of the President of India stated.

In a post on X, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio congratulates Sano Vamuzo and stated that it is a proud moment for the citizens of Nagaland. Rio also wished her good health and long life in the service of people.

Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) too congratulations its former Chairperson for being awarded the Padma Shri “for your exceptional contribution in the field of Social Service”. Your dedication and impactful leadership is truly inspiring, NSCW stated.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had announced the awardees of the Padma Awards 2024, one of the highest civilian awards in India, on the eve of this year’s Republic Day. The President presented 2 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2024 at the programme on Thursday.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, many Ministers of the Union and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

After the Investiture Ceremony, Amit Shah and other Union Ministers interacted with the Padma Awardees at a dinner hosted by the Home Minister at his residence in New Delhi.

The Padma Awardees will pay homage at the National War Memorial on the morning of 10th May 2024. They will also visit Rashtrapati Bhawan and Museum of Indian Prime Ministers (Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya).
