The main purpose of wearing black was to show the despair of the students to the concern authority. A member of the protesting groups also cautioned, “The black colour signifies that something extreme will happen very soon in the second phase.”

The students are protesting over the non-fulfilment of the charter of demands that include deployment of principal, teachers, good roads and for properly functioning college buses. The agitation began on 31st August 2023 and was called off on 2nd September as the Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland assured that their demands would be fulfilled at the earliest.

Finally on 12th October, Chang Students Conference ordered the closure of Sao Chang College after the department failed to keep its word.
